Throwback Blogs - The Nature of Transition
What is the one reality all human beings face?
We ALL will transition from our earthly existence.
Maybe we will return, move on to an afterlife, or not, but we will, at some point, conclude being who we are right now. No living creature on this planet is exempt. No amount of money, worldly possessions, status, or influence can insulate the living from this fate.
Death is indeed the great equalizer. It is the elephant in the room we choose to ignore.
While initially, this truth may evoke a sense of dread, in time and with deliberate practice it should inspire us to celebrate life every day, in every way within our power. There is so much we can control and actively participate in. So much celebration, laughter, growth, joy, and excitement, but not without contradiction. For every laugh, there are tears for every celebration, there are periods of mourning, and joy can quickly give way to sadness.
Perhaps it is a facet of human nature; we do not want to focus on the unpleasant.
We figuratively stick our heads in the sand and ignore the fragility of the greatest of gifts – life. I believe to truly appreciate our earthy existence is to acknowledge that it is not forever. Nothing can exist without universal equilibrium, and mortality is at the root of that balance.
Transition is defined as the process or period of changing from one state or condition to another. We as a species, share this constant movement. We do it almost every day, every month, and every year until our physical vessel exists no more. Sometimes it is with mindful intent, but often it is indirect and without a sophisticated eye almost invisible.
In Tarot, the Tower card represents transition on steroids!
A majestic tower perched on top of a mountain is struck by lightning. Two people are catapulted headfirst into the air, arms and legs flailing in the winds of change. Transition can be catastrophic, the loss of a loved one, a divorce, or the termination of a job. Or, it can be subtle, a sudden desire to get out into nature, a shift in attitude, a less myopic view of a situation, a sudden tug at the heartstrings, or the release of a clenched fist.
I LOVE the word transition. I spent my entire life in this state, even when I wasn't aware.
Professionally, I have evolved from a public relations professional to a funeral director, and now a freelance content creator and blogger. I am not the same person I was a month ago, and I would not have it any other way. I am an advocate of conscious modification and embracing the inevitable. While not all transitions are positive, they are always an opportunity for renewal and growth!
